What do you think about GMail's new look?
Moderator:Moderators
A few weeks ago, GMail allowed you to try their new look, and I believe now they have moved everyone over to the new look, or will soon do so. What's your opinion on the new look? Love it or hate it?

Hate it. They really should leave an option to permanently keep the old look.

Talking about Gmail, have you seen Youtube recently? That look ain't much of an improvement either
Re: What do you think about GMail's new look?
I like it for the most part; it's a bit more minimalist than before and they simplified things a bit, but I was so used to the old format.
Re: What do you think about GMail's new look?
Gmail is OK so far, nothing that impedes how I use it.
Youtube on the hand... Gah. The look is OK, but every time someone in your subscriptions does anything, it posts the video they're doing it to in your feed each time, making you see a given video again and again. Most of my subscriptions are part of the retro-gaming community, who tend to like, favorite and comment on each other's videos, each of which adds another freaking item to my feed. Youtube doesn't collapse by user doing the action or video being interacted with, at least most of the time, unlike the last version. The X for individual videos is gone, so no way to trim it down manually. I kind of like the suggested videos running down the side, but the lack of the X on them too is going to be a pain if a video I really don't want to see even the icon of comes up in the list. I need to play with the Video Manager more, but so far I like the looks of it compared to My Videos/Insight. I need to figure out how to see which videos and searches people watching my videos came from.

Re: What do you think about GMail's new look?
On the advice of a member of the official Gmail support forums (a regular member, not a moderator or similar) I've created a forum page to discuss GMail's new look and strategies to make Google leave the old look as a permanent option, outside of Google's help area.
It's here: http://gcritic.gg8.se/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Anyone can comment without signing up, anonymously or with a name. If you're feeling a little bit uncomfortable with the new interface, but can't pinpoint the problem, you may want to check out the "What's wrong with GMail's new look?" thread.

Google, why can't you just leave things as they are? This doesn't make me want to use Google+, if that's your intent.
The new YouTube design is pretty terrible, too. I miss the old homepage subscriptions grid.

Re: What do you think about GMail's new look?
I was annoyed that they discontinued offline backup through gears. They offer a similar (but inferior) way to do it through chrome, but I much prefer firefox. Now I have to use outlook.
I've made a huge mistake.
