Virtual Boy Portable
Moderator:Moderators
Hey everyone,
I know I sound insane for wanting to do such a project, but after seeing an Angry Video Game Nerd episode featuring it. (While doing a complete screening of all of his videos) it makes me want to attempt this.
I was wondering if anyone has ever attempted this, and if I would need to put two screens.
And all suggestions are welcomed.

Re: Virtual Boy Portable
The Virtual Boy is already portable.
More so than many of the portables made here.

Re: Virtual Boy Portable
I do realise that it is already portable, although you'd have to be brave to play it in public. Also, I was thinking more along the lines of a GameBoy (for the shape of the unit).
Also, I might attempt this eventually, it was merely a thought.
Thanks for all the replies, and please pardon any spelling errors, I'm typing this on my (to be modded, waiting for parts) DSi.

The virtual boy doesn't have any screens, it uses LED emitters.Vort wrote:Hey everyone,

Re: Virtual Boy Portable
If it was "gameboy style", it would ruin it. Not to mention that I believe this is somewhere near impossible.
Excellent

You'd have have to have an FPGA or a processor store each line of display in memory, then write out to a raster display each full frame. If the mirrors' speeds are constant, this would not be too hard, if you don't mind it being 2D, and if no games would be rendered unplayable by having only one display.

Yeah, I posted that a while back, it was a dumb idea. I've just finished painting a DMG and a GBC, and I'm frontlighting a GBC soon. Might attempt a NES portable. ^^
Cheers.
Cheers.
Re: Virtual Boy Portable
Another thought for anyone that feels like doing a handheld VirtualBoy: have the FPGA/microprocessor buffer both displays, render one in red, and the other offset in green, so you can get some of the 3D effect by wearing the red/green glasses.

Aren't they red and cyan(blue)?tom61 wrote:Another thought for anyone that feels like doing a handheld VirtualBoy: have the FPGA/microprocessor buffer both displays, render one in red, and the other offset in green, so you can get some of the 3D effect by wearing the red/green glasses.
