But that's a hack, made (I mean copied) out of somebody's house or in some sweatshop in china. It is not legal to sell a copyrighted game, copied to a flash cart.

but you could download it and copy it to your own flash cart, and it would be no different from that one, which is on a flash cart.

Actually I've played Shiny Gold, it's quite good. It's not one of those Engrish half-baked hacks that people use to make a (small) profit. It's a pretty cool concept, started several years before HG and SS were even announced, and fans wanted Gold and Silver remakes instantly.bentendo64 wrote:I'd like to get some of these games, they always make me laugh when i see them....

the thing is, how do you know it is just copied onto a flash cart? what if he actually programmed an IC made a lable for the cartridge and all that other junk?nevermind1534 wrote:but you could download it and copy it to your own flash cart, and it would be no different from that one, which is on a flash cart.

That doesn't stop it from being a pirated copy of Fire Red, which, mostly, it is.joeyjoe9876 wrote:the thing is, how do you know it is just copied onto a flash cart? what if he actually programmed an IC made a lable for the cartridge and all that other junk?nevermind1534 wrote:but you could download it and copy it to your own flash cart, and it would be no different from that one, which is on a flash cart.

That doesn't make it any less illegal.joeyjoe9876 wrote:the thing is, how do you know it is just copied onto a flash cart? what if he actually programmed an IC made a lable for the cartridge and all that other junk?nevermind1534 wrote:but you could download it and copy it to your own flash cart, and it would be no different from that one, which is on a flash cart.
It is a good quality remake, and I like the GBA graphics better than the DS's (for Pokemon games).smitty wrote:Actually I've played Shiny Gold, it's quite good. How did you know?nevermind1534 wrote:Do you also collect replica watches and handbags?
But seriously these game are fun plus, Gamefreak no longer makes money on the games that are being used as the base of the hack.

Re: Isn't selling this illegal?
I know, but it's somebody taking something that's free on the internet and selling it. I have nothing against downloading it (for free), and I might even consider buying one if the person selling them was actually developing the games, not just pulling them from the internet for free.gamer255 wrote:How did you know?nevermind1534 wrote:Do you also collect replica watches and handbags?

So what you're saying is, you have nothing against piracy... Unless you're saying just outdated games, with which I completely agree. The only thing it's taking money from is Game Stop. But the thing is, most of the games I find I would never even consider getting if I had to pay for them.nevermind1534 wrote:I know, but it's somebody taking something that's free on the internet and selling it. Re: Isn't selling this illegal?
They're old games that aren't made any more. It still wouldn't be "right" if the person who developed the games was selling them, but the fact that somebody is just pulling these from the internet and selling them pisses me off.

Re: Isn't selling this illegal?
Pointless anyways. All these Shiny Gold carts are using an ANCIENT beta that ends at the Olivine lighthouse, not even half through the game. Zel, the author of the hack, added some anti-piracy measures after that, so they cannot use his new stuff easily.
Ripping off his hard work to make money is just wrong.
