Board game thread
Moderator:Moderators
Does anybody remember when board games used to be quality products? They used to be made of sturdy materials and cost quite a bit of money. Nowadays they're flimsy and cheap crap (I'm looking at YOU, "Guess Who?" and Operation). I often have nostalgia attacks and become compelled to go to wal mart and buy a copy of a classic game for $20 and end up just wanting to throw the plastic junk reiteration into the trash. Does anyone else share my frustration/sadness for days gone by?
Re: Board game thread
Another good point. The game of Operation I bought a few months ago makes a bunch of stupid sound effects and has new made up body parts to extract.

I second the motion. I've only played with them once (the "Around the World" edition), they took longer to use than the paper money. I also hated the prices on the world edition, they just added a few zeros.wallydawg wrote:I find it blasphemous that Monopoly now uses debit cards.

RISK is the most amazing game on Gods green earth and now they have all these new artillery attacks!?!??!?!? And now its hard to even find the classic version.... wtf.....the old game will always pone.

I third that. I absolutley hate that darn credit card junk...and I have to agree, the game feels like it just drags on with the darn credit card...CASH FOR THE WIN!vskid wrote:I second the motion. The only time I've never truely lost a monopoly game was when me and some freinds played the credit card one...with no cash in hand to feel the money, I kept overspending myself, and wound up loosing...hm..I see a pattern here...
So yes, I do feel the sting of modern junk...Although, I just picked up the Settlers of Catan game, and that has suprisingly good build quality...so maybe it's just milton bradly that's going down the tubes?

I play a cool board game called Zombies!!!
I also play classic risk now and again, the old version is much better than the new fast one.

Settlers of Catan is quite possibly the greatest board game of all time. If you havent played it, buy it, get three friends together and play for a night. You will be hooked.

That game is a heck of a lot of fun. Plus, there's a version of it for the 360 for the times when no one else is around to play.madc0w wrote:Settlers of Catan is quite possibly the greatest board game of all time. Re: Board game thread
We still have my mom's old 1970s Monopoly set around somewhere. Now that crap was quality.
We also still have most of our old 80s and 90s games; they're built well too. (The ones with lots of parts like Goofy Golf Machine are long gone; you know how it is with those overly complicated games. You lose progressively larger and more vital pieces over time.)
Doesn't it seem like everything made before 2002 has a better build quality than new things?
