Uh buy a C, C++, Java, Perl or even a Flash book. The important thing is you need to have a book with graphics.

What language do you want to learn? (BASIC, C, C++, PERL, Python, Java...)

What's your budget? (BASIC, C++, and Python are cheap or free, things like Flash cost money.)

Do you want a pspecialized compiling suite or are you willing to type everything in a text editor and use a minimal compiler?

If you want to try out Python or C++, download the Knoppix live CD and install it on an old junker PC you don't need (or give a damn about the data). It comes with a couple different programming systems.

You don't really have to compile anything if you learn Java.

If you want to make simple internet games, go flash. I boguht a really good/thorough book on actionscript 2.0 (for $70) that came with a CD that can show you how you messed up. It's really good, only I never finished it all. It's even got some php and such things.

Theirs a cool thing called dark basic pro. It lets you make really advanced games in about 1000 lines of code because things that would take lots of lines of code in C++ or VB (such as loading a 3d model) only use one command in Dark Basic. Basically it gives you single line commands for all the features in DirectX.

I'll post a screenie of a game i'm working on when I can find it.

The URL for the company is: http://www.thegamecreators.com

Plus they have a forum with many developers their to help newbies.

The company also makes those game creation kits where you click and drag a game together. A good one of those with graphics and physics and everything comparable to todays games is FPS Creator. (which has it's own URL at http://www.fpscreator.com)

And as an Assembly, Visual Basic and Newbie C++ programmer, I would like to welcome you to the coding world!
I'd imagine right now you wish you were a cuttlefish...

Just like to bring a very appropriate quote into this discussion:

DarkBasic and Game Maker are the way to go if you're looking for cheap stuff.
