Casio TV gets too much static - HELP!

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

Casio TV gets too much static - HELP!

Post by zzaz3 » Sun Jan 03, 2010 10:47 pm

I just spent the last 2 days working on my 1st portable. I got every put together and it works great! The only problem is that if I leave it on for more than 2 minutes the screen gets REALLY fuzzy and there's static everywhere.

I have no idea what to do or what to look for. I checked all my solder points and everything seems fine. Any ideas?

are you using rf or composite?

I have a little experience with a casio screen, and the picture has always fuzzy. Somebody told me to put resistors on the video line, but I didn't get to because the screen died.

I'm using composite. I bought some brand new batteries and put them in and that helped reduce the static a lot! Thanks so much!

But now the colors are kinda over saturated and depending on what channel I put it on, the colors will be completely off. It's usually allways blue. I have a 10 Ohm resistor that I'm going to try installed and see if that fixes it.

Alright, I added a resistor and everything on the screen seemed really faded, So I added another and it seemed exactly the same. I decided to take the resistors off because I'd rather have it over saturated than under saturated, but now it still looks faded. Even without the resistors attached.

The only thing I did was make the wire sending the video about an inch longer so I could solder the resistor to it. You think that would of effected it?

Nevermind. I ripped the ribbon cable connecting the screen to the main board. The whole thing's ruined :(

Don't say that, you can connect it with wires by yourself.

It's to thin. There's no way I could fix it. I'll probably just move on to another project and try and do better this time. All I need is a new screen to use. Any recommendations?

It was a Casio TV-970b.

Yeah, I found that thread shortly after I made that post. Those screens look a lot nicer than a pocket tv. As soon as I get money in my paypal, I'm going to order one.

So, what do you guys think I should do with the screen? Should I make a dreamcast portable or a PS1 portable?

Dreamcast, I haven't seen much of them. But you should make another topic / rename it xD

It depends on howmuch of a challenge you want. The psone is an easier portable to make, and requires (in my opinion at least) less skill then a dreamcastp.

I dont really care much about my dreamcast and I like a challenge. So why not make a DC portable?
