mini ps2, and unfortunately I don't have an amp meter. I'm rating this based on how long the system runs off my 6amp 7.4v battery.

So, your battery is 7.4v... Even the mini ps2 requires at least or around 8v.

it SAYS it requires 8v....but it doesn't. I'm starting to suspect the 7805s, I think it only needs 7v to go through those....I bet Ben replaced them with DC-DC converters....but I don't know how the hell I'd find one that outputs that many amps.

Hi there. I'm rather new to hacking of videogames but so far I've tried re-wiring jobs on gamepads to custom-made joysticks thou.

there's some questions I would like to ask for those who are more experienced in this Playstation portable stuff.

Please correct and enlighten me if I'm wrong.

I've noticed that the PSOne screen is rather common on portables due to the connectors and wirings.

Is it possible to use something like an old laptop screen for the portables? I was actually thinking of those converters which allowed me to connect Playstation2 console to Computer monitors for VGA output.

Is it possible to use just only the normal PS2 (Not the slim one) for portables?

Is there any source or perhaps anyone who won't mind to tell me the power specifications for the normal PS2(not the slim one, but the normal one)? How about PS2 from different region (Any asians here?)

I'm actually trying to get everything cramp or fix into an old laptop/notebook computer casing if it's ever possible for me to get it work with it's LCD screen.

Below is a image link of a brief idea of what I'm trying to do.

Yes you can use the old ps2 it takes 2.1 amps at 12 volts you cannont use a laptop screen and psone screens are used cause they take RGB and are cheap

Yes I've read up on the RGB stuff and I just realised that it won't work. Sorry to sound a bit like a noob since I'm really new to this with limited knowledge in electronics.

I'm currently looking for alternatives other than the PSone screens since I prefer to have a slightly bigger screen.

My objective of this 'project' is basically trying to have everything fit into a laptop size 'portable'.

As for 2.1 amps at 12 volts, I guess I might have to do something about it then. Might have a hard time trying to find the right powersource for that.

If your not consirned about weight too much and you want a larger screen buy one that uses 12v. The PSOne sceen is the best as it uses 7.2v input (runs on 5v). There is another thread in the screen forum that has a 6.8" screen, that might be more to your liking.

Good luck.

Thank you. But I might have to change my initial design a little bit thou. Since I find that smaller screens can't display the 'details' much, thus I tried to come out with something with a bigger screen. Guess I might have to drop the idea of that big screen for the time being. :)
