PSTwo DVD Component-RGB Problem!!

Post by segasonicfan » Sun Nov 14, 2004 4:35 am

Okay, I hooked up my new PSTwo slim system to my PSOne screen (I hooked up a control to to make it fully portable) and went into the configuration to change the display from component to RGB mode. Now everything looked fine. PSX games play great on it too. However when I put in a DVD something strange happened...

The PS2 opening came up in perfect color and when the DVD started playing everything turned green. I assume this is due to the dominance of green in component video. Is it possible that the data on the DVD disc can only be displayed through component video or composite video?

After reading the new GameSX video primer I know that DVD players have component coming from the video ram, but I don't see how a DVD disc would have a component problem..

Can anyone explain this? I'd like to know why this is happening.

Okay, I found out why it's doing the component swtich...it turns out the PS2 has anti-pirating crap so it won't let you watch DVDs in RGB cause they think people are going to rip the information and pirate them or something....bleh Sony sucks.

I found a solution:

http://www.dms3.com/cgi-bin/dms4/site.p ... -dms4_lite

It looks like this new mod chip (supposively compatible with the PSTwo) eliminates the green output on DVD playback. So I suggest if anyone else wants RGB DVD on PS2 they should get this chip.

You can use the DVD Region Free CD. It allows you to watch imports and (as a complete side effect...) takes away the green tint when using RGB, beit connecting it directly to a Psone screen or using scart cables. Do a search on yahoo if you want to know more.

I already solved the problem. I bought the DMS4 Pro modchip and it works great. It also has a built in 2MB flash memory for future upgrades-nice!
