If we MUST use ~8.5V, I think I should consider battery options.
7.2V battery pack and several 1.2V Recharagable batteries(1.2V ones are in parallel and attached in series with the 7.2V ones) equal 8.4V.
7 1.2V batteries connected in series equal 8.4V
Rechargable "9V" batteries.
Rewire a DC-DC Converter to somehow combine the 5 and 3.3V circuits into a single 8.3V circuit, maybe with diodes....
Try to average together 5 and 12V sources or DC-DC/ITX converter paths into 8.5V (put a 5 and 12V battery in parallel with each other) WARNING: May not work and overload the 5V battery/trace unless it has a GREAT tolerance for excessive voltage...but this would result in 8.5V if it worked by some miracle, maybe by the blessed power of diodes...
12V with a 7809 voltage regulator(5-6 in parallel or use a power transistor or two)

Rechargeble 9 volts wouldn't be a good idea, imo. from what I've seen, they're only 8.4v really, and AFAIK they've got about 140 maH to 200maH. That sucks!!! 10 of them would only be 1400 maH to 200maH and 10 is way too much space. So I think rechargeable 9v batteries are out of the picture......MM007 wrote:Rechargable "9V" batteries.

Yeah I figured this out a couple of years ago when my NES wouldn't boot off a 9 volt. It's a bummer it's amps are so low otherwise it could be a standard in portabilizing.Rechargeble 9 volts wouldn't be a good idea
