ps2 slim problem,question
Moderator:Moderators
I have a little big problem with a SCPH-70004 slim.
it is my first ps2 but i am familliar with it. The disc spins and the laser focuses but the motor that moves the laser is a bit disconnected...
I mean the motor is in place but the wires/foil were ripped off.It works perfectly in rest.
I dunno why but i CAN NOT post any pictures.
Please help me and if you do not understand something ask me! pictures soon and please excuse my bad english.

The foil is an insulating resin and a hardener as it is a FFC. It may be shorting when moving as it is touching something and not when it is back at the limit switch.
Can't tell without images so try and upload them and post them here using the code
Change the example URL to your image URL of course...

Okay,new photos!
I soldered wires to the tabs where the plug was,and connected them to another plug.
soldered 4 wires to the motor and tried all the 24 combinations that exist!
but it did NOT even move!
and please do not tell me about connections because i checked them numerous times.
(more pictures just in case)

Re: ps2 slim problem,question
If I can not find a solution for this i am trading it for 2 gba and games.
i am giving only the console without cables...and controllers...and games.

Re: ps2 slim problem,question
Most likely, the fuse is blown for that link, and those traces on the board look REALLY damaged.
Just get a new board. Get another console. Even a faulty one, with a broken laser. Because you just need the board, and motor as you know...

Oh...
I understand now! I am quite sad .
Do you recommend trading it?Or only the parts are good?
Can someone use the board for something?

1. The fuse is not blown because it outputs 1,5VHaunted360 wrote:Most likely, the fuse is blown for that link, and those traces on the board look REALLY damaged.

2.The traces are not damaged because they make contact with the alternate solder points that i found on the other side of the board.
(these tests were done with a multimeter)
Now i just think that I done a bad soldering job to the motor, that is ruined now.
Got a new motor and I will try again.
I never give up. But I always fail.
Re: ps2 slim problem,question
I replaced the motor and the connector but another problem showed up...
that was the best i could do.
that connector was ripped off a radio and cut to size.
After that ,for reasons i do not remember, i replaced the whole drive that came from another SCPH-70004 but a silver one(they are different!Including the drive!).When i tested it,the disc did not spin, the laser did not work and the problematic motor did not work,
When I put the old drive back in,again, the disc did not spin, the laser did not work and the problematic motor did not work.
(MADE IN CHINA)is that normal?
So, what should i do?

Re: ps2 slim problem,question
I seriously can not believe you are still trying to fix this...
It is broken. The mainboard fuses are FRIED. The DVD drive pinouts are all messed up and are most likely shorting.
Time to give up on it.
Yes. Made in China is normal. Sony stopped manufacturing PlayStation items in Japan a long time ago...
And yes. A DVD-deck from a 70004 PS2 will not work in another Slim PS2. Different laser diodes...
One of the images shows the ribbon cable all bubbled. Most likely, like I said, you have shorted it, fried it, and it has heated up so hot, that it melted.
