GameCubeMini ~ Worklog

Post by zenloc » Mon Apr 04, 2011 4:39 pm

This is going to be my newest and smallest gamecube portable. I still haven't decided yet if I'm going to use a psp case or the blue case show in the pics. As I am going to have to choose between a 3.5" or 4.3" screen.

Specs:
Smallest cut gamecube board modded with wiikey fusion for sd loading
7.4v custom regulator
built in 2056 memorycard (slot-A)
built in sd gecko (slot-B)
built in rumble (2x 3v mini motors) with on/off switch
Mini pad buttons (GC style)
2x Tapwave zodiac analog sticks (check pics for size comparison) or 2x psp analog sticks (depends on actual case I'm going to use)
7.4v 5A polymer battery (up to 2 hours of game play)
built in sound amp with mini speakers and headphone jack
Av out

Here's a couple of pics. I will post any new info as I progress.

Blue case I bought at a local toy store

What do you think? a 3.5" screen or a 4.3" screen? Making it into a psp would be awesome though!! Ofcourse it will be a bit fatter than the original case but he it would look cool. Just don't know about the button placement. Those psp analog are not my favourite.

If you have any suggestions send them over. I want this to be the best gamecube portable ever created :mrgreen:

How do you plan on widening the psp's case? there is no way you can fit a gc in an skinny little psp case.

Here are some new pics of the case. Since this is my prototype I'm using the good old frankencasing techniek.

Still plenty of work to do. More pics next week. I'm gonna remodel my workspace this weekend so won't have any time to work on the project.

This is also the controller I'm using:

I'll be posting some pics of this controller cut. This has rumble aswell and will be very tiny when I'm done with it.

The only and real reason is that it's tiny. the buttons are small and the triggers too. The board can be cut very small with rumble so best of everythign really. the only downfall is that you can't get these anymore. I had 2 laying about 1 which was already broken and 1 with a busted analogstick. As I'm going to use 2 tapwave zodiac analogs it was and easy fix. Also I'm using a gameboy advance dpad. As they are small and original nintendo looking.

I have found another controller though which is much easier to get but the buttons are just a little too big. The shoulder buttons of the wii classic controller are perfect for a nice slim looking portable but I just don't like the rest of the buttons. Also too big.

I would advise this controller http://alatest.com/user-reviews/game-co ... 00664,318/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
or this controller http://www.amazon.com/Wii-GameCube-Mini ... B0019T6DRK" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

But then the wired version. Sadly I cannot find a link to it. But they sell them at my local gamestore. All the other controllers are just too big and a re a pain to slim down. Both of these controller are perfect for slimming down and have smaller buttons.

I don't think anyone should buy that second controller, the intec one. If you read the reviews, it sux and breaks, and neither of those things are good in a portable.

I used that intec style one for in my gamecubeslide. Altough my version was wired and was from hipgear...... it looks exactly the same though.

i never had any problems what so ever :)

there is a smaller version of the first controller (of the 2 links). If it says "Microcon" on the right handle then you know it will be the smaller one. And they are smaller than the controller you are using, board, buttons, everything. much smaller.

I'm still waiting on my wii classic to come, so I can do a comparison on the boards and the L and R triggers.
