My original XBOX worked well when I got it from my brother, and for about a year after. Now, it FRAGs when i hook up the AV cord. Without it, it works fine, with it, not so much. Any help?

Re: XBOX problem
I bought a new cable, cause that was my first thought. It must be the port, but how do you fix that?

Re: XBOX problem
Look at the pins. Are they bent or shorting on eachother?
If not, then I dont know. Maybe an internal issue with an IC or fuse.
I do not know the Xbox that well at all to be honest

Re: XBOX problem
If it frags it could be a number of things. Has the xbox ever been opened? In my experience a damaged port shouldn't cause the xbox to frag. When the xbox blinks green/red it is a generic hardware error indicator. Usually the first place to look for issues the motherboard.

As far as I can tell, the motherboard is fine (but then again, I don't know how to tell).

The motherboard hasn't been modded, correct? As I mentioned before it is really hard to diagnose with your given information.scotty0990 wrote:As far as I can tell, the motherboard is fine (but then again, I don't know how to tell).
Re: XBOX problem
sorry for the delay in posting this. I try to help when/where I can with all things xbox.
I would suggest playing a little bit of solder work to try to resolve this one. There is a A/V pinout that I'll link to at the bottom of this message. Try grounding an AV point so that the xbox thinks that it is pumping out whatever AV you want to try. See if it can turn on or if it FRAGS. If it FRAGs then you know that the issue goes somewhere deeper than just a wonky port since you won't be using the port. If it does work, then I recommend buying the female ends of a couple of RCAs and an RCA/Svid or whatever, drill some holes in the back and then put your own ports in.

this one is awesome too

Re: XBOX problem
I'll try that, Harlequin.
btw, I don't think I mentioned this before, but I think it has to be the AV port. Because when I don't have the AV cable in, it works fine. But when the AV cable is in, that's when it starts to flash red and gives me an error.

Re: XBOX problem
Yeah it sounds to me like it *could* be the port. Grounding out the pins in that guide will tell you for sure whether it is the physical port itself, or if it is some other portion of the device that is causing you grief.
I'm hoping for the best on your behalf, but this is probably 50/50. BTW, if it isn't modded then it would not boot fine without the AV cable. If it does boot fine without the cable, then there may be a flashed TSOP or modchip on board.
TSOP is awesome.

Re: XBOX problem
Xbox Live account has "expired" due to not signing into xbox.com for more than three months. Will need to create new gamertag. (At least that's what xbox support told me.)
I have no idea why as i hadnt been off my account for more than 3 weeks
