Concerning Microsofts 3 year Xbox 360 warranty

Post by Motoman » Thu Aug 09, 2007 4:57 pm

Well, my situation unfolds like so:
I'm in the market to purchase an Xbox 360, the Premium specifically, but being the cheap person I am :P , I'm looking for a adequate deal on ebay, during my search I began to wonder, "If I purchase a 360 on Ebay and the 3 rings of doom appear, do I need a validation of purchase, such as a receipt, in order for Microsoft to fix it? Or do I just have to register the 360 on the appropriate website?"

Any insight is appreciated.

All you need is a valid 360 serial number. My Xbox died and that's all they asked for in regards to the 360. They'll also offer to register it to you if you so desire.

One more question comes to mind concerning my purchase of an Xbox 360, when buying the Premium model should I be concerned on whether or not it contains an HDMI port or not, or is the difference in visual performance between an HD component signal and HDMI signal so minute that I need not worry. I'm definetly looking forward to some Bioshock. :P

Any input is appreciated.

i was curios, because i saw a lot on a website for 3 xbox 360s for 50 bucks each. They were returns to a video game store after the customer bought them so they are probably screwy. I was wondering how difficult it would be to return them.

I'd heavily advise against buying a regular 360, especially on eBay. I have a friend who had to deal with the dreaded ring of light the first day of summer. Sent it in and got it back in about 2 months. Claimed to be brand new. The problem happens again within the next hour. Unfortunately hes gonna go the whole summer without any games now which is a bummer. I'd recommend pinching your pennies and getting an elite.

Remember, you get what you pay for. That being said, if you buy a 360 off of Ebay that has been opened or modded then you are screwed. No free repair/XBL for you.

Just something to think about!

Hmm, what if someone else (the previous owner) has already registered the serial number?

I bought a broken 360 rro' doom the day I found out about free repairs. 200 dollars with shipping, came with all the premium stuff -HDD, but 3rings o death. So, I mailed it back to them and it's coming back by friday. Saved my 200 dollars (well, 150 now).
