RCP Cartridge relocation info! Post pics of your games!!
Moderator:Moderators
Oke this post was first started because I wanted to see if the 12v pins were really used for games and guess what it isn't! And even better there are many other pins which are not used either!!
Hope you don't mind me using your pic bentomo...
On all of these below mentioned games the pins 13, 14, 24, 38, 39, 44, 45, 46, and pin 49 are not used!!
mario golf
wf war zone
mortal kombat mythologies sub-zero
ms pacman maze madness
armorines
hydro thunder
quake
bomberman
f-1 world grand prix II
f-1 racing
donkey kong
mario 64
super smash brother melee
roadsters
007 the world is not enough
Also ground is all connected together meaning you could just use 1 wire.
We have yet to confirm but it seems that the cartridge connector can be relocated with much less wires.
I'll be posting any new games on this first page.
Have any games!! open them up and check which pins aren't used and post a pic!

Re: RCP Cartridge relocation info needed....
might depend on the mapper. Did the N64 have different mappers?
The question here is "why not connect them" though?

Re: RCP Cartridge relocation info needed....
I plan on powering the n64 off a single 3.7v lithium battery. I would use a small step up to get 5v for he video line and wanted to know if the 12v line is really needed. Since when I connect nothing to it it also works. both the 3.3v pins are needed I know that for sure but the 12v pin is a big
I'm going to check my games to see if the 12v pin actually connects to something. If anybody already has some pics or know's if it's connected let me know.

Re: RCP Cartridge relocation info needed....
On my schematic I have 12v going into Pin 8 of U2... the audio amp, I think.

You need at least 7.4 volts for the 12v line.zenloc wrote:I plan on powering the n64 off a single 3.7v lithium battery. Re: RCP Cartridge relocation info needed....
oke your misunderstanding me. I'm talking about the cartridge slot! there are 2 pins which use 12v. I know audio uses the 12v line but that'll be achieved via a step up. All I want to know if the games acually use the 12v. as all the games I tested will also work if I connect nothing to those pins.

Re: RCP Cartridge relocation info needed....
You sound like you already answered your question. AFAIK no one else has ever asked that. It probably just goes to the cart slot for compatibility. Why not have 12v right? Since you are putting 5v there anyways, you might as well just not bother, since you dont know if a "12v game" will even work on 5v anyways.

Re: RCP Cartridge relocation info! Post pics of your games!!
I'd gladly help with my games if anyone can tell me where to get a small gamebit screwdriver. I only have the big one
Re: RCP Cartridge relocation info! Post pics of your games!!
Another update!!
Little mistake made with checking my games
donkey kong and mario 64 both use pin 21 and super smash brothers uses pin 8. So that clears up those 2 they are definitly needed.
Also took some HD pics om my carts if anybody is interested http://rapidshare.com/files/345763354/H ... s.rar.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
All the other pins though are not used.
You can dremmel a flat screwdriver and use that. Look on google there's a little guide for it. Works like a charm!

Re: RCP Cartridge relocation info! Post pics of your games!!
If I'm not mistaken, I believe the 12V going to the cartridge was probably only meant to be used with special devices inserted into the cartridge slot, like maybe the audio/video cart, which would most likely also have made use of pins 47, 24, and 49. I had seen a picture of said cart years ago and tried to find one online just now, but I can't find it.
EDIT:
Found a pic of said cart:

Yeah we talked about how it's most likely for the exp. Pack an MR
Re: RCP Cartridge relocation info! Post pics of your games!!
Always assumed grounds were connected together, but I suggest connecting more than one anyways. This image might help?
Pins 13, 14, 24 look like address lines 12, 3, and 5 (?? not sure if pins are labelled correct on this schematic).
38: JTCK
39: !COLDRESET
44, 45, 46, 49: GND

Re: RCP Cartridge relocation info! Post pics of your games!!
I believe 12v at the cart slot was meant to be used with the Nintendo 64DD, released only in Japan. The expansion port shares the same pins as the cartridge slot, and the 64DD plugged into the bottom. It was a commercial failure, and only 9 games were released for it.
I assume that no games ever needed 12v. It's possible a few other pins are only needed if the add on is used.
