thanks for answering :D
there is one other thing, though.
on the old batteries, there are 2 3.7 volt cells on them, and there are 2 positive lines on the protection circuit;one for each cell.
will this effect anything?

-update-
well, the old protection circuit is trash, but that's not important right now
today i tested my batteries to see it i am getting anything off of them;7.61 volts.
i connected the batteries to the n64, and the 3.3 volt line read 2.890
that's almost 3 volts! :D
i know this may seem like the same problem, but it isn't. i tested these batteries right out of the box, and they probably weren't holding much a charge, so when i get enough money i'll either buy a protection circuit, or buy a new charger for the batteries and make a new charger for them
as for the tactile switches, i should get them by monday

i think you may have misunderstood what i said. i'll either buy a charge protection circuit so any adapter will work, or i could buy the official charger, and use it to make a new charger for them, as in making it external.
i would never put the official charger in the portable
i should have enough money to get a PSone screen off ebay this friday

just a little question to anyone,
will we ever run out of PSone screens?

it's going to suck if we do someday run out.

well this isn't an update, but it's just something i'd like to post
had a scary incident with my batteries. i had everything rewired correctly and was reading a very faint 7.61 volts. when i was trying to place the batteries somewhere else, i accidentally touched the positive and negative wires together, instantly heating and later smoking in my hands. i ripped the batteries apart when it had blistered my hands.
i'm not so sure if it was the batteries that were heating up, though; i think it was just the wires heating up like that- i've done it before. do you think the batteries are still good? when i felt every cell, none of them were hot or burnt.

The cells are prolly fine. I'd recommend replacing the wire though. That kinda heat can make them break down inside the insulation and you might lose your connection.

yeah, i do need to get more wires. i've been using the same wire for everything, and all of the wires are white.
to tell the truth, i don't know where to buy general purpose wires

You can salveage a lot from controllers but for power supplies you will want something heavier. Do you have a local hardware store? You can get something called Primary wire in sizes like 12 and 14 gage and it comes in all kinds of colors. I get my stuff from my local Ace.

I think 14 is pretty beastly. You can easily get away with 18, maybe even 20.

well, this project is pretty much stuck in the same place for now. there is ABSOLUTELY nothing more i can do to this project as of now. i should be getting my tactile switches and my case monday, and i have a quick question:
can i cut a hole for the screen if i use a glowing hot x-acto knife to cut around my screen area roughly 1/16 in. from the original tracing and sand the rest down if i have proper ventilation?

do you have a dremel? I assume not, but... How would you make your xacto knife redhot? It would probably ruin it, your best bet would probably be a drill. That's what Life of Brian did, he used a drill to drill a whole crapload of holes, then cut through each one to the next one with his xacto knife.

Isn't that a cutting wheel? Yes, but if it is the heavy duty quarter inch thick wheel, you may want to get a thinner one, because that would demolish your case.
