soldering the gameport problem
Moderator:Moderators
I took the game port of the n64 out and also ripped the disk drive port of the n64 out too. I was thinking I wanted to relocate the port. Later I realized I didn't and soldered the gameport back to the mother board. Upon testing it the n64, it doesnt work. Any suggestions on how to fix it.
Anything would be greatly apperciated.
Thanks

Whoa whoa, okay, first of all - I'm not extremely fluent in whatever language your speaking, but I think your saying that you removed the cartridge slot and the expansion slot (directly under cart slot) from the board, then replaced the the cart slot by means of soldering and now your N64 doesn't work. That is correct, no? Did you solder the cart slot directly to where the pins came out? If so, thats the problem. The expansion slot pins are the actual connection - the cart slot connects to the expansion port, so if you remove the expansion port, you need to solder the cart slot pins to the corresponding holes from the expansion slot.

so he didn't solder into the holes, he soldered onto the expansion port leads?

to ^ you:
The expansion port solders into the board, whereas the cartridge slot is not soldered in, it just plugs through the PCB into a socket on the reverse side of the expansion port.
Without the expansion port, the cart slot will neither work nor even stay on the board without solder. If you solder it into the holes it naturally fits into, it wont be connected to anything. The actual connections are made to the outer row of holes.

I don't really feel the need to make a new thrad so i'll state my problem here.
After I soldered the cartrigde port on and turned it on the n64 didn't respond, like no led light, and t.v. recignition, so I was wondering is there anyway I could have broken my n64 by soldering the cartrigde slot back on?
I doubt i'll be able to post a pic but ill see if I can.

There's a sticky at the top of the page for that.
Typically it's best to do a search before you post a question.
