Re: introducing the new (wip) n64 flipscreen portable!!!
-just to clear up some confusion(well, there might be confusion)-
i was making a new youtube account for my projects and what not, and come to find out, there is already a metalcookie on youtube.
i can assure you that the metalcookie on youtube is NOT my account.
mine is called 1MTEALCOOKIE1
anyways, back to the portable!
nothing new yet

Re: introducing the new (wip) n64 flipscreen portable!!!
-update-
well, my pth08080's came in today
i think i'll use these in my portable, because they are just a bit smaller than the pth08000's
i wired everything together, and tested it before i wired it on the n64
3.264 volts
with it wired to the n64, and no game in the n64
3.0023 volts
with the game put in
2.756 volts.
i had no idea i'd get these similar voltages with a different part, but anyways,
i've almost concluded that my problem is with my power source, but i still have no idea of testing the amperages, because i wasted all of my spare money on a 6600mAh battery on ebay.
there is one other possibility as to why this is happening to me:
i am using the same wires that i used for the cartridge slot relocation, which is just wires off of a phone cord.
i know it's not really called a "phone cord", i just don't really know what it's called, so don't call me an idiot
i'm not really sure what my problem is, but i'm willing to bet part of it is using wire that isn't proper for this application
i am still welcome to opinions as to why i am still having this power issue. when i get the battery i'll post my results

Well there's your problem. You cannot use thin wire for power. Get some thicker wire.

Re: introducing the new (wip) n64 flipscreen portable!!!
yah, i suspected that, but how could it be lowering the voltage?
i'm guessing low conductivity

Re: introducing the new (wip) n64 flipscreen portable!!!
I haven't had any problems and I'm using 30 guage wires. I'm nearly positive that his power supply can't put out enought power. In my youtube video, the voltage would drop from 3.27v to somwhere around 2.5v then it would go haywire.metalcookie wrote:yah, i suspected that, but how could it be lowering the voltage?

Re: introducing the new (wip) n64 flipscreen portable!!!
My 2 cents is that it probably is the battery.
I had the same problem metalcookie is experiencing when it comes to power, I was using a 3800mAh Ni-Mih battery and the voltage would drop on the 3.3v line, but as soon as i turned everything off power would steadily climb back to 3.3v., so I did i quick swap with my 3000 mAh li-polymer portable dvd player battery (that could power the dvd player drawing 2 amps) and it worked fine (even while playing perfect dark with memory expasion)

Re: introducing the new (wip) n64 flipscreen portable!!!
there are 2 other bits of info that may help you
when i was having this problem, i removed the capacitor to see if it had a profound effect, and it didn't. it behaved the same
AND i have soldered wires directly to a 2.2 amp 9 volt power supply, and i still get the same problem.
i think there might be a possibility that it's my wires
any other suggestions?
EDIT:
i reattached the capacitor before soldering it onto the power adapter

Re: introducing the new (wip) n64 flipscreen portable!!!
Try a capacitor with a higher voltage rating. It sounds odd, but it happened to somebody else and this fixed it.

a bigger capacitor, eh?
what about a 450 volt capacitor?
what about a 450 volt capacitor?

Re: worklog: ZN-64!!!
-update-
well, i've got a case for it and i have a name:
ZN-64
i decided to go to polycase and look around a bit, and i decided to use the ZN 45 case. it's a perfect case, in my eyes
i named it the zn-64 because of the line of case i'm using, which is zn
still, nothing new yet

i've already got a design and button layout for it, in my brain and it isn't like yours

Re: worklog: ZN-64!!!
-update-
batteries came in today!
wish i had a working camera so i could show you, but i don't
they can be described as looking like a thermo-nuclear device.
i hope these actually are my batteries, instead of bomb sent in from the middle-east
well, as i suspected, they have no protection circuit. my old batteries(the ones that are 7.4 volt0have a charge protection circuit on them. if i remove the batteries already on that circuit and solder the new battery cells to the circuit, will it blow up? both sets of batteries are 7.4 volt li ion, but one of them was only 3000mAh while the new ones ones are 6600mAi also have a case picked out. either the zn-40 or zn-45.
i'm trying not to copy anyone, and i don't think the zn-40 has been made into a portable n64. i also plan using l3(on the analog stick) as L. this idea is dedicated to banditpaw1, who gave me the idea of using that unused button
EDIT:
sorry, didn't notice the first zn-40 case n64 on the forums

The old protection circuit will work fine.
