NES No audio :/

Post by noobdude » Sat Jan 30, 2010 11:53 pm

Ok so I jut got this NES off ebay and when i first tried it i got the blinky light, so i took it apart and gave it a good cleaning, when i tried it after that it came up with this blank screen with funny colors, i messed with it a bit and i got the game to come on but it was in black and white and quite wierd looking. I figured it was because i was on the plasma TV, so i went to another TV and now once i fiddle with the cartridge to get the game on it will come on in color as it should, butttt no sound, which is really quite unenjoyable. Im using some yellow, red, and white av cables i had, ive used two pairs both the same. So anybody have any suggestions?

Have you tried it with the antenna adaptor?

That would be the RF cable.

You need to do the 72 pin connector fix (bending all of the pins up) or get a new one (i sell new ones for less than the people on ebay). I would also recommend disabling the lockout chip and cleaning the contacts on your games (use a high concentration rubbing alcohol).

Let me know if you need help with any of this.

so to disable the chip ill go the the circuit board and break off that one little silver thing off the chip haha. and ill look up a tutorial on how to bend the connectors. You really think this is why i dont have sound?

The 72 pin connector could be the reason that you don't have sound, or it could be something else. The 72 pin adapter just makes the success rate for playing when you insert the game higher. If you still don't have sound, the stereo mod will fix that.

Do you think if i got one of those small older TVs for like 20 bucks at the Flea market and hooked it up to that all would be well, i mean those don't have any special stereo hookups or anything.

If it doesn't work on one TV that you know has working sound, it's not likely going to work with another one. You do, however, need a tube TV for the zapper to work.

I dont know hardly anything about this kind of stuff but i do find it so weird how the game is finally in color and working but there is no sound. Well im going to take out the lockout chip now and see about bending those connectors and see what comes of that.

For the lockout chip, there is one pin that you pop out. I think there's a youtube video with somebody doing it.
