AOAC curiosity question
Moderator:Moderators
i know not everything you read is true, so i though i would consult the experts in this forum. According to this site
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atari_Flashback" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The atari flashback hardware is actually based on Nes on Chip hardware. I have looked up as much info as i could find on this. Here is what i have learned. The atari and nes were actually pretty similar. The atari used a scaled down version as the same cpu as the nes. the nes has the video and cpu power to accommodate atari games, but not vice versa. Is this true, is the ATARI Flashback an NOAC? If so would this not give the possibility of modding a Flashback 2 to play nes games (would be funny looking but pointless i admit)? Supposedly this explains why the flashback 2 cant play all atari carts due to the differences in actual nes and atari hardware. Anyone who could shed some light on this for my morbid curiosity, i would greatly appreciate it.
UPDATE! well as soon as i wrote this i ran into this site :
http://classicgaming.gamespy.com/View.p ... ail&id=210" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Apparently this was true for the first flashback, not the second. the second flashback does use a real atari on a chip, the first uses an NOAC.............................
well now i know

Re: AOAC curiosity question
Well, I guess you solved your own question.
If you forget:
Flashback 1=NOAC
Flashback 2=AOAC

Flashback 1=NOAC
Flashback 2=AOAC

Or you could do what Rekarp did and power it with a tiny 3.7v LiPo cell and save yourself some money while making a small portable.samjc3 wrote:woah! in the second article, the say the rev 2 will run for nearly 24 hours on 3 AA's! that would be epic with a high mah lipo cell!!

Re: AOAC curiosity question
now for an aoac question from me.
I have seen a lot of flashback 2 portables that don't have potentiometers on them. So I was wondering if the system worked with paddle controllers.

Re: AOAC curiosity question
Paddles do work with the FB2. (In fact there's an easter egg built into the Flashback II ROM that unlocks two games that require paddles.)

Re: AOAC curiosity question
That's nice to know. I have always stopped myself from buying one because I was afraid I would not be able to play paddle games.

Re: AOAC curiosity question
paddles are what made the 2600. I bought an 8-switch for paddle games!

Fast typing strikes again. I don't read my posts after I post them.
