I didn't realise there was a heat spreader, so i didnt apply flux to the components in between.. well I thought it was one piece and my heat gun blew them away. hahaha i got the ps3 for free. can anyone help me out. even advice would be helpful.

You will not be able to solder those back, without the schematics.

I dont think anyone will get the values for you, yet alone figuring out what ones are capacitors and resistors.

They look like 805. That needs a fine tip soldering iron to get them back on.

naw man, it's simple. capacitors don't allow current flow.. resistors do. you can measure the farads in circuit. plus soldering is easy.

Man,do not try to argue with haunted 360.
I did it and it did not turn out good.
If he says something is broken, belive me,it is.

Thanks Armarares

It is fixable of course, however no one will be bothered to:

- Take a high resolution photo,
- Check each 805 component with a multimeter that can check capacitance / resistance,
- Draw the measured resistance / capacitance in paint on the high-res image.

That is why, a schematic is your best bet (if SCEE released them).
You could grab another faulty PS3 and do it yourself. I mean, as long as it is the same CECx model. That is another option.

It also looks like there are some 0603 and 0402 SMD parts there too.
402 is almost impossible to solder. Remember, these are done by a machine during manufacture.

LOL at the fanboy. anyways thanks bro. I am fixing a camcorder i found in a dumpster with a carbonized c6 transistor and i could probably get a good high quality picture.. i found a ps3 repair store in dallas (close by me) that might help out. its not that big of an issue

i heard last night that the ps3 only has 256 MBs or ram. i wonder if i could solder higher ram chips to it and another spd-table chip to it for more cause really that's not a whole lot.
<edit>
at a first glance i cant find the spd chip so it could be built into the processor. though i only looked at it for about 10 seconds just a thought. if anything the eeprom could be programmed manually.</edit>

Adding more ram to the PS3- any need to do so?
Then theres the problem with finding the specific chips that will work with the PS3.
Oh- Don't forget about attaching them to the board. Not even possible (or rarely so) even with an IR surface mount soldering table. I've tried to replace the ram chips in one of my UMPC's- Ruined the board and it cost me another $400 to grab another.

Try if you wish...
Setting up a website- I need input!
If you've got time- PM me for link.

ok that sucks about the umpc. i find the ps3's boards are more heat tolerant than most boards.
