Xbox 360 Controller: Able to Disable Analogue Stick Button?
Moderator:Moderators
I am looking to to the mod where you put buttons on the underside of the wireless controller to replace these "buttons", but as I understand, you would basically have 2 buttons (stick and new button) that do the same thing. Can I disable the stick click button so that only the new modded button is available? One of the reasons I am wanting to do this is because I sometimes grip my controller too tight in the heat of intense COD matches and accidentally "knife", and get myself killed.

I do that all the time, or accidentally zoom in on Halo.vphreeze wrote:One of the reasons I am wanting to do this is because I sometimes grip my controller too tight in the heat of intense COD matches and accidentally "knife", and get myself killed.
I think you could desolder the whole analog, snip the legs off the tact switch, then resolder the rest of the connections. There would still be the click, but it wouldn't do anything. Then you'll be free to hook up your own auxiliary buttons.

Or leave it soldered in and cut the traces going to the tacts with an exacto knife.

that sounds like a fairly easy route, i was considering/dreading attempting the analogue stick vasectomy. could you, or anyone, possibly point me in the direction of those traces? i have seen pictures of the front and back of the motherboard labeled with the contacts for the other buttons, but I don't know if i've ever seen those labeled. what's that button called anyway, i feel kind dumb calling it the stick click button.snowpenguin wrote:Or leave it soldered in and cut the traces going to the tacts with an exacto knife.

On the PS3 controllers they are L3 and R3, but on the 360 controllers they don't really have a specific name, I personally refer to them as LSC and RSC, for Left Stick Click and Right Stick Click.
It really depends on which version of controller you're dealing with as to what the best place would be to sever the trace. There are currently 5 versions of the official 360 controller.

Screwing up is one of the best learning tools, so long as the only thing you're not learning is how to screw up.
