Uninstall Norton Antivirus

Post by bentendo64 » Fri Jan 14, 2011 7:53 pm

Does any one happen to know how to uninstall Norton Antivirus 2007?
The windows uninstaller doesn't completely uninstall it, and I've deleted everything I can find that has norton, or symantec in its name. I'm trying to install Kaspersky antivirus, but it keeps saying that norton is still installed. Has anyone else had this problem? can I uninstall it without completely reformatting my hard drive?

Try this:
http://us.norton.com/support/kb/web_vie ... N&ln=en_US
Antivirus software in general is extremely persistent about not being deleted.

Seconding the Norton Removal Tool. It's a staple in my "fix it fix it fix it fix it" IT tool arsenal. 8)

Here are a few free antivirus products in case you need one (in order of my recommendation):

Microsoft Security Essentials
Avira Antivir
Avast!
AVG Antivirus

Thanks!
After deleting everything I could possibly find having to do with Norton, and Kaspersky still didn't work, i gave up on that, and installed Microsoft security essentials. It seems to be working, so thanks again :D

Hey. A little late now. But I use a tool called revo-uninstaller. Works WONDERS. I repair computers and this is the tool I use to remove antivirus like norton(pain I know). There is a free version and a paid version. Free works great. A google search should get you the download.
Hackify me cap'n!

It says "unable to read boot sector" or something like that...... I think Ill have to bring it in somewhere, or pay for the software that can find my files on my hard drive. :(

well, there IS this obscure file recover thing I used when I ended up perma-deleting a REALLY important essay assignment of mine, its called DiskGetor Data Recovery (Free Version)

most other file recover programs get deleted files, but they don't really ORGANIZE it, and it may take some time on searching for the file you need; this one ended up showing the deleted folders with a semi-regular file structure (almost like ShadowExplorer), and I was able to find the file I needed and managed to avoid an F in school; here's a link to it, and try out the free version; if you like it, go ahead and get the paid version, or stick with whatever works for you; anyway's, here's the link to the site

http://www.diskgetor.com/

it MAY seem unreliable, but as many others said "don't knock it till ya try it"
"Zeus, your son has returned; I have brought the destruction, OF OLYMPUS"
