Help with RGB to NTSC adapter

Post by jackspicer » Fri Oct 17, 2008 10:47 pm

Hello, i was kinda hoping someone on this board could help me with the RGB to NTSC adapter you need to Consolize an mvs, specifically the ben heck one on engadget. the skematic is useless and the pic of the back of the circuit board is hard to see. my two big problems are that i cannot tell which way the electrolytic capacitors go, It says " Make sure you attach the + and - leads on them correctly as shown in the schematic" but i dont see anything telling me that. And where all i solder the resistors to. A close up pic of the back of one would be so helpfull. Thanks

and if i cant get this to work, is there an easy way to hook an mvs board up to a computer monitor? Or is there a more detailed guide then the one on engadget?

I bought a converter off of ebay. I haven't completed the project, but I plan to update on my tweak once its finished. I think I paid $6 or something for it....

Hmm, this is a frequently asked question. However, I always thought the schematic was pretty clear if you ask me. For the capacitors, they ought to have a plus and minus side marked very clearly on the case. This only applies to the "can" shaped ones, the other capacitors are not actually polarized.

But, if it's not making any sense and you have $35 on your person, you can get an RGB to NTSC converter board in kit form. Keep in mind, it only seems work well with the Neo Geo MVS and a few other select boards, and to my knowledge it also works well with the Amiga line of computers! But don't expect it to work with just any Jamma board. I have used one in my Neo Geo and I really like it, it was certainly worth my money.

It can be bought from Jeff Kurtz, he is reputable and not only is he an honest seller but he also helped me to troubleshoot my encoder when it stopped working.

You can get one from him on his website, http://www.neobitz.com/

Make sure you ask for the NeoBitz-S kit, he has other encoders too, but they are more expensive and probably beyond what you need for a first time project.
Emulation isn't accurate. There is no substitute for real hardware!

I figured that I could attach the wires directly to the pins using this diagram

I mean its a RGB to NTSC SCART converter...so I thought....

I use one of these

http://cgi.ebay.com/Arcade-RGB-CGA-to-T ... 7C294%3A50

you have to wire it yourself. And I had to add 4 resistors to the colour line on the s-video signal coming out of it to get the saturation correct. But besides that it works wonderfully
