Nintendo Gameboy (OG) powering confusion (aka - wtf!)

i have 2 Nintendo Gameboys. neither of them will power on with batteries, BUT i bought a battery pack made by nintendo that plugs into the power port, and it works (close to fine. traces are old, need cleaning). since i know they work, i wanna make them work better. can i...

A) clean - resolder the battery slot traces to make them work
B) make the internal battery go to the alternitive power port.
C) mod in the power pack with charging port with use of option b also

any thoughts will be great

Probably a broken solder joint or a fuse (batteries might've been put in backwards once)
