I etched my first pcb 8)

I made the cube64 gamecube to n64 controller adapter in EAGLE and used the laserjet toner transfer method. I don't have a drill press handy, so I'll be surface mounting non-surface mount components. But I'll post pics when I get a hold of another pic16f84a to finish up the project.

I recently decided on my 360's new color scheme. Right now I've got the hard drive done. I'm only planning on doing the disc tray cover, eject buttons, and faceplate pieces after this though. I'll edit this post and add the other images once that's done.

As promised, here is the final product.

5 Hour Light

Post by sambskn » Mon Jan 25, 2010 1:03 pm

Check this out! Due to my lack of soldering iron, this project was made of just a battery, LED, hot glue, and a ton of electrical tape. The light turns on when you close the lid all the way.

For some reason I covered it with electrical tape. Forgot about that.
Man, if I want to hack anything, I need some cash...

Image 10 hours and 2000 balloons later. Last time our housemate goes home for the weekend instead of watching us beat her country at the rugby. All in all, a good investment of £30.

So for the past couple years my dad's had this PC set up in the computer room at a remote site for doing network monitoring. Well, last week someone inadvertently plugged it into a power cable carrying 240v.

So he brought it home, and I ripped into the power supply, and found a blown varistor. I couldn't find any replacements, except for one which was designed for twice the load. (The PSU needs two of them, and only one blew.) It was also a stupid small form factor wacky Dell power supply. We don't have any of those around, either. I did, however, have a full size wacky Dell power supply of similar vintage...

There. I fixed it. (Yes it does work. The only problem is the CD-ROM drive needs a floppy power connector, and the only floppy power lead is literally half an inch too short. But it's not needed anyway so no harm no foul.)
