Ventilation for an oak N64...

Yes it is nice to be able to put your projects INSIDE something isn't it? You know, to hold everything together so it doesn't flop around? Discuss the techniques here!

Ventilation for an oak N64...

Post by acidRain burns » Thu Oct 28, 2010 2:49 pm

I'm making a wooden enclosure for my Nintendo 64 out of oak, and giving it wicker paneling for the front, and steel side vents.
However, I'm worried about ventilation. How many fans will it need, and should there be holes in the bottom? The quieter, and more aesthetic the solution, the better...
Thanks so much for the help!

Also, I can post pictures here when its done... I'll probably sell it...

As long as there's some amount of room around the heatsinks, you shouldn't need any fans, just like the real case.

See how it runs first. If it gets too hot, you work from there. It should be fine, though.

It all depends on how tightly your case hugs the circuit board. If you have the original heat sink on and have a bit of room around the circuit board, then no problem. If, however, you are making a case that tightly hugs the circuit board or have a bunch of other components crammed in there with it like in most N64 portables, then you'll need to consider something a bit more robust. Tell us more about your design - it sounds cool!
