I wouldn't start out making a portable 64 as it is harder than most... significantly easier than the 360 for sure, but it doesn't even sound like you're really making a portable, either. I'd recommend if you want bigger than a psone screen (5") than you could use a digital picture frame with an av i...

You know you could easily buy an expansion pak for like five bucks (or less i fyou get a 3rd party one)...
That's just a suggestion, as you won't be able to play Donkey Kong 64 or Majora's Mask... and any other game that requiers it.

Honestly, I'm pretty new to this as well... BUT, rule of thumb those parts are all there for a reason. You could desolder all of the tuner boxes, etc. but I wouldn't desolder the volume knob, of the headphone jack, becasue then the speakers won't work. If you're not working with speakers, go ahead.....

Yo man I ran into this problem too... You can trick the screen into making it brighter by bypassing the component "CV23". To do this just ad a bit of wire around the component. It's beside the copper oval shape with "SB3.57954" on it. See if that helps. :D If you've already done that... well, try to...
