Re: Creating a Portable (Power Blaster) (First Time) (Help!)
That's a really good beginer's project. If you take a look in the 1980's gaming index, you will find a ton of information that will help you. (your Power Blaster is a "Nintendo on a Chip") A lot of forum members have done some pretty nifty projects with these things. I bet if you look under '80's ga...

Re: What do you guys think about this screen?
I don't know that it would be too terrible. There are a few N64 games with a widescreen option, and though this screen is quite a bit bigger than a lot of other portable screens, it's still small enough that the widescreen "stretch" might not bother you too bad. And it's cheap-ish. It is a pretty bi...

Did that work out for you? If so, I'm going to do more or less the same thing in one of my current projects.

That thing is gorgeous! The convex lens really brings the illusion together. I gotta find a similar lens to fit over a 5" Zenith screen now!

About to start MVS portable.
What's up community? I've got a lot of goodies on the way from a recent Ebay bender, and I'm looking to start a winter project. I am going to build a portable MVS. I already have an early model one-slot MVS, don't know exactly what model. It's ginormous, whatever it is. Successfully consolized it, e...

Re: Blue electron gun: Epic frustration!
Well, thanks for the tip. I did what I could to troubleshoot that monitor, and eventually I ended up finding a junk TV with a 27 inch tube to swap in. I think I know why the TV was junk to begin with. It's colors are all screwed up too. I thought the tube might still be ok, so I swapped it onto my m...

Blue electron gun: Epic frustration!
Did a full re-cap on the monitor chassis of my old Korean candy cab today, to correct a vertical collapse problem. Vert collapse is fixed, but now no blue shows up on the screen at all. There is continuity all the way from the game PCB all the way to the blue signal on the CRT neck board. The game P...

Same as PSone screen?
I'm thinking these have to be the same as a PS1 screen. If so, then this is a pretty decent deal, but I'm going to hold off on buying one until someone can confirm that it's the same screen. Re: NES powered by USB
Good call, I never thought of that. Curious now to see how long I can run my ol' NES before the battery in my laptop gives up. (Hey, that counts as "portable", right?)

Replacing capacitors
When replacing an electrolytic cap, (same value and voltage) does the -physical- size of the capacitor matter? In other words, my replacement capacitor has the same capacitance and voltage as the old one, but it's way smaller than the old one physically. Is that ok?

Re: NES Modification: Using original Power/Reset switches
I'm currently building a portable NES and wanted to use the original Power and Reset switches. The reset works fine but the power switch doesn't. I'm guessing it has to do with the two pins I'm not using for where the RF Box used to be. Is there something I have to do in order to use the original p...

NES powered by USB
Ok, so here's a simple one. I decided to solder a USB cable to my ugly test mule/prototyping NES project. (Soldered the red wire to the 5V input on the board, black wire to ground, left green and white data wires dangling). It runs fine, and totaly eliminates the need for a big "wall wart" and allow...

Re: WTB Gen Nex/Generation Nex for parts.
Metallica Man X, those connectors will work well enough (would be nice if they came with little mounting "ears" on the ends to screw them down to a board or something) but I'd really like to try and get one of those "L" shaped dual-connectors from a Gen Nex if possible, just to keep things tidy. Try...

WTB Gen Nex/Generation Nex for parts.
Looking for a junk Gen Nex (the NES/Famiclone with the dual cartridge slots). I only want it for the cartridge connector for a dual slot NES project. Who's got one they can lay on me for cheap?
