Hmm interesting question. WIth the right bracing you might be able to use it. You may need to have a sheet of aluminum to brace the motherboard and the LCD.
It might just be easier to use the material that Ben has shown works.

Re: wd1200bevs hdd or oem hdd?
I too would agree with RDC and Xero_D about the laser. As far as the HDD you should just go OEM IMO, but a used one. You can get used 120's for about $60-70 and BEVS are about $45. The key like Zero_D said is something MS could look for and ban. I have a BEVS and it isn't hard to do...when I did min...

Re: What kind of heat gun for rrod fix?
thanks for that. If my 360 starts rrod-ing again I'll do that. Is sticking it in the oven (just the motherboard / no heatsinks) and covering it in tinfoil like the picture a stupid idea? Some people say it works for them. As a last ditch effort my friend did that with success...but that is really d...

Jesus, man. This is incredible. Compare this project to about 90% of the other projects on these boards and you'll find that you're way above them. You must have a lot of experience working with this sort of stuff, especially if this is your first portable. Thanks I appreciate that. I have exp fixi...

Re: project help
The project can be completed as quickly as you want it to be done. The BIBLE for this are Ben's Engaget tutorials. Everything you need to know can be derived from these articles. Read them over and be prepared to use it as a knowledgebase as you may have to sway from it on your own project. The hard...

Re: What kind of heat gun for rrod fix?
The x-clamp replacement is the best place to start. However this isn't always permanent. Some pesky units keep red ringing...that's because the solder probably cracked... The best option is a reflow machine, but I think the lowest price on a cheap one is $150. With these you can locallize the heat. ...

Re: Update 6/4 :Brief60 v.08 (aka another 360 in a brief case)
Thank you very much for your answers. I can only hope that I can have the will power to complete one. Not a problem. Remember read Ben's tutorial until you know it in your sleep...it will save you problems...then have it open when you are working so you can refer to it. That's what I did. And take ...

Re: Update 6/4 :Brief60 v.08 (aka another 360 in a brief case)
Thank you. Still need to finish though. I used a dremel to cut the hole. You cut through aluminum with a dremel???? lol that's sweet :D . Did you just use a drill attachment for the bit? Also, as far as cooling/speakers, you could probably fit 2 good size speakers in the space in the upper ...

Re: Update 6/4 :Brief60 v.08 (aka another 360 in a brief case)
The inverter in the pic is the power inverter for the monitor, but you can connect the leads off of that to the 360's power brick. Ben's tut can show you how.
